Meditations Part VI

In Part VI, i feel like a main obsession of Des Cartes is believing that mind and body begin to exist as one.

"D" begins to feel many things such as his apetite and excitement, and pleasure. He also begins to sense things such as light ,colors, odors, What i feel is happening is that D doesnot know what we know in todays times.... We know that the brain is made up of sections that have electrical impulsesthroughout to tell us what to do and when to do it. The brain tells how sense things and how to touch and what to feel.
"D" thinks that these things that he is feeling have something to with God. He thinks God has something to do with all these senses and feelings. "D" doesnt realize about the functions of the brain yet.

please comment if you feel like i misintreperted this passage or if you have anything to add.

I also agree. I think he believes that has something to do with the mind and memory. The memory of certain smells and such. I didn't really understand this part fully but I think he believes that only God could make up such things like sense, colors, and light.

I agree with Rob. It seems like he can't put the two together. He does bring up God and how the mind, body and senses all have to do something with God.

i agree with the statements that you made that Decartes does not know about our function of our brain. Its is so crazy how in the first part he does not want to include god on the things that confuses him but yet later he believes god has something to do with his senses and feelings. Maybe he is starting to belive more in god. What do you think?

yeah im not sure if he is ready to believe in God yet. I think that "D" isnt sure about the functions that we have as a brain.

I think since he doesnt have a true answer in part 6 that he just think it could be God.

I dont think he believes in God yet.

I think Descartes knows that somehow these things all have a connection, but just no way to prove it, so thats where the issue of God comes in. He is starting to realize that maybe not everything that is presumed to be true can be proven concretely.

I definitely agree with what you said about him not having the scientific advances that we have today so hes not really sure hes just making a general statment from his own opinion about the brain and body working together. Hes just assuming that God gives us all these impulses
